UNOH Motorsports Team at Limaland Motorsports Park in 2017

As opening day for dirt track racing rapidly approaches, Limaland contestants scurry to complete all tasks necessary to get their cars up and running. The small town of Lima, Ohio is home to one the nation’s most premier high bank quarter mile dirt tracks. Limaland Motorsports Park is a proud host of the following classes: stock cars, modifieds, sprint cars, and the occasional wingless sprint car. Pits will open at 4:30 p.m. following the grandstand gates opening at 5:00 p.m.! Mark your calendars for April 20th because it will be the place to be on that exhilarating first Friday night of racing action.

Limaland is in close contacts with the cutting edge University of Northwestern Ohio, boasting a full blown motorsports team, UNOH takes full advantage of the neighboring dirt track and is in attendance on every Friday night race to compete with the local and traveling drivers. UNOH students maintain glorious perks as a result of the close relationship, gaining free admission to any Limaland race by simply flashing their student ID and enjoying one heck of a show. The track is not well known by chance-but rather due to its meticulously maintained facilities and incomparable track management.  And with that comes the pleasure of hosting big name drivers like Tony Anderson in his stock car and Christopher Bell running sprints. Limaland does a spectacular job keeping not only the UNOH students but local spectators engrossed in action packed entertainment, and gives all the motorsports team members the opportunity to experience some real-time racing! Leading the team to battle is Head coach Paul Higgins, stating in a pre-season interview “I would like to see professional and respectable racing from my guys and to provide them with true racing experience”.

As a UNOH Motorsports team member, I too share the excitement and anxiousness associated with the days to come at the track. When talking with the drivers and some of the second and third year team members, it’s no secret that this is the real deal and UNOH means business when it comes to race time. Brenden Rassel, a third year team member, shop manager, and driver is a valuable piece of the puzzle as we approach race day. Rassel stated in a pre-season interview “I would personally like to see the team go out and give it their all, bring the cars home in one piece, and consistently run up front in the top five places all year.” As this is a lofty goal for a group of rookie drivers, this is a true representation of the ambition and positive attitude we bring to the table. Ending the interview Rassel left me with a simple, yet electrifying quote; “Shoot for the stars and leave it all on the track.”

Chomping at the bit, drivers all over are preparing to unleash the beast on the dirt, so join us at Limaland Motorsports Park on April 20 for a thrilling Friday night under the lights!
