The University of Northwestern Ohio’s 96th annual commencement exercises will be held this year on Sunday, June 12, at 1:00 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Civic and Convention Center.  A total of 1,207 students from the College of Applied Technologies, College of Business, College of Health Professions, College of Occupational Professions, and Graduate College will be receiving their degrees and diplomas.  There are 414 students who have earned two or more credentials.

Mr. Simon D. Gonzalez Badiali was nominated to be the graduation speaker representing the Graduate College and the Colleges of Business, Health Professions, and Occupational Professions.  He was nominated by the faculty because of his dedication to the university, knowledge within his field of study, and ability to perform in and outside of the classroom.  Gonzalez is originally from Caracas, Venezuela and was a 2009 graduate of Colegio Agustiniano Cristo Rey in Venezuela.  Ever since he was a little boy, Gonzalez had an interest in cars and wanting to know how to fix them and make them faster.  But there were no colleges in Venezuela that offered majors in Automotive Technology.  With the support of his family, he discovered UNOH and decided to begin classes in Automotive Technology.  After completing his associate’s degree, Gonzalez moved on to his bachelor’s degree in Automotive Technology Supervision, and is today completing his Master of Business Administration Degree.  During his time at UNOH, Gonzalez was a charter member of the UNOH Racer Leaders along with participating in the President’s Advisory Council.  Upon hearing that he would be a graduation speaker, Gonzalez said, “It is a remarkable honor, but also a big responsibility to speak on behalf of my classmates.  I hope to be able to deliver an inspirational message to everyone by sharing my wonderful experiences as an international student at UNOH”.

Mr. Benjamin Colagrosso was nominated to be the graduation speaker for the College of Applied Technologies.  He was nominated by faculty in the College of Applied Technologies due to his academic performance.  Colagrosso is originally from Oak Hill, West Virginia and is a 2014 graduate of Oak Hill High School.  He chose to attend UNOH because it offered an accredited degree in his field of interest.  After receiving scholarships from Skills USA, UNOH became a perfect fit.  During the ceremony, Colagrosso will be receiving his Associate’s Degree in Automotive and Diesel Technology.   When he learned about being selected as the graduation speaker for the College of Applied Technologies Colagrosso said, “This is a huge honor.  I worked so hard to keep up a high GPA along with perfect attendance the entire time I attended UNOH.  It makes me feel good that the instructors took notice of my hard work and what I accomplished while I was a student”. Colagrosso already has a job lined up following graduation as a Heavy Diesel Technician at Heritage International in Cross Lanes, West Virginia.  While working he plans to continue his education with UNOH by enrolling in the Automotive Technology Supervision bachelor degree courses online.  In the future he hopes to become a technical instructor at the high school or university level.

The University Grand Marshal this year is Jim Bronder.  Mr. Bronder has been employed by UNOH for 19 years and is the Controller of the University. Nathan Robreno is the Marshal for the College of Applied Technologies and Haley Givens is the Marshal for the Colleges of Business, Health Professions, Occupational Professions and Graduate College.

The 2016 University of Northwestern Ohio graduates represent 37 states, including Puerto Rico, and 16 countries (United States of America, Argentina, Australia, Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, Netherlands, Republic of Serbia, Russian Federation, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Trinidad & Tobago, Ukraine, United Kingdom, and Venezuela).
