UNOH Athletes Team Up with Girl Scouts for Summer Camp

Posted on Friday, July 14, 2017

The Girl Scouts of Western Ohio have joined forces with University of Northwestern Ohio female athletes as part of a summer camp held on the UNOH Campus July 17th – 19th, 2017.

During the camp, participants will learn how participating in athletics can help them develop leadership skills they can use now and in the future, discover how physical activity and healthy living can be a part of their lifestyle, and learn they can do good things for themselves and the greater community around them.  UNOH athletes from the women’s soccer, basketball, softball and cheerleading teams will be assisting throughout the three-day camp and running the sports portion of each day’s events.  Camp Directors are Jamie Crippin and Jennifer Parker, both from the Lima Office of the Girl Scouts of Western Ohio.

UNOH athletes will be teaching the campers the basics of each sport as well as talking to them about teamwork and being a good leader and role model for their peers.    Director Crippin says, “Our hope is that having the sports portion taught by female college athletes will inspire the girls to become leaders themselves.”

The camp runs Monday, July 17th through Wednesday July 19th from 9:00am – 3:00pm.  Monday and Tuesday morning sessions (9:00am – 12:00pm) will be held on the UNOH Soccer Field with the afternoon sessions (12:30pm-3:00pm) being held in the UNOH Gymnasium.  Wednesday will start in the gymnasium with the afternoon session held at the UNOH Softball Field.
