Students are served the traditional Thanksgiving Meal at Racers Station

On Thursday, November 23rd UNOH hosted the Annual Thanksgiving Day lunch for students who were unable to travel to their hometowns for Thanksgiving. Racers Station welcomed thirty-five students and thirteen faculty/staff members to help make this Thanksgiving feel more like home. The warm, home-cooked feast included all of the traditional fixings such as turkey, mashed potatoes with gravy, green beans, dinner rolls, and of course, pumpkin pie with whipped cream. Students from near and far made Racers Station their location of choice this Thanksgiving.

Among the students in attendance, Automotive student Dalton Beane from Oxford, Michigan said, “I am thankful for the food and being in the presence of other students during this Thanksgiving. I was planning on staying in my dorm room and ordering pizza when I learned about the opportunity for free food at Racers Station.”

As for International student Rafael Milan De Sa, from Levain De Sul, Brazil, he was able to experience his first ever Thanksgiving Day meal while here on campus. Traveling all the way from Brazil to study Digital Multimedia Rafael shared “It is the first time that I have experienced a Thanksgiving Day meal and it is a holiday that we do not have back home.”

Although this is a great time for students to get out of their dorms to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal there are many Faculty and staff volunteers who take time out of their Holiday to spend the afternoon serving these students. Carissa Burgess the Director of Military Relations loves spending time with the students as they enjoy their meal while learning about where they come from. College of Applied Technologies

Instructor Chris Harubin is thankful for the opportunity to serve, as he is a UNOH Graduate who did not have the opportunity to travel home for several holidays while he was a student. He expressed, “Now that I am an instructor it is time to give back to show that UNOH students and staff make a great surrogate family.”

Students were able to do more than just eat, they were also able to interact with other students and utilize what Racers Station has to offer during the duration of the lunch. All of the students in attendance left with full bellies and thankful hearts this Thanksgiving!
