In and outside of class, Daniel Sanchez is leaving his mark. Daniel is a recent UNOH graduate from the High Performance program in the College of Applied Technologies and has now moved to the College of Business where he will be getting his Business Administration degree with a concentration in Marketing. This is what UNOH calls the 2+2 specialized studies program. These programs have come to be very popular for students working on their Associate’s Degree in the College of Applied Technologies. “It was the better choice instead of moving back to New York and going to school for an additional 4 years to get the same degree,” said Daniel in a recent interview.

Daniel is originally from West Sand Lake, New York. So how did Daniel make it to UNOH? It was to pursue his love for racing. He decided he wanted to bring his own Bud Thunderstock Car out to race on Friday nights at Limaland. The first two years proved to be a big a learning curve for him and his crew but that time paid off as Daniel is currently leading the stock car division so far this season. He’s been the guy to catch at the front. Daniel and his crew have picked up five wins so far at Limaland and another one at Montpelier Motor Speedway in Indiana, giving him a total of 6 wins under his belt and it’s only late-July.  I questioned Daniel about his feelings towards the 2018 season, “Luckily we haven’t really had many struggles so far this year and we really hope our luck continues” he said.  “Limaland is really my favorite place to race. The staff and the fans are great. The racing is clean and competitive and the track is just very professional all around.  They really do a great job.”

You might be taken away when you’re looking for Daniel’s blue #463 Stock car as you’ll see two of them going around Limaland. Don’t worry, you’re eyes aren’t fooling you. Daniel and his family have two stock cars running this season. Daniel said, “Towards the end of last year we teamed up with Nightmare Chassis and bought 2 new cars. Our Silly’s Competition Engines have been running well all year and we have been fortunate enough to have a good starting spot several times”. Daniel pilots the #463 and his teammate Jordan pilots the #463X.

Having two cars run on Friday night is very hectic and it takes a lot of work to keep them maintained and in good running condition on the track. Daniel said he wouldn’t be able to do it without the help of the guys from Limaland Tech Support Team and his instructors giving him great advice during class. The Tech Support Team is an extracurricular club made up of current UNOH students looking for teams who need some extra technician support. “Mr. Marker does a great job finding the students cars to work on,” said Daniel.  A bonus to using current students is that he’s also made some great friends throughout the years as well!

Besides racing on Friday night, Daniel is very involved with different student organizations at UNOH. He is the President of the UNOH Chapter of the American Marketing Association. When asked how he likes AMA he said, “I have learned a tremendous amount from Dr. Mann and the rest of the AMA members.”

The AMA Chapter works with businesses in the local community. “We help them with ideas and events and they help us,” he said. “Dr. Mann and the rest of the club are very supportive of my racing. They are either at the races or blowing up the group chat for updates throughout the night.”  Daniel is also a UNOH RACER Leader Student Ambassador. As a Racer leader, Daniel is providing new students with guidance through orientation and answering any questions they may have.

Daniel is excited for what the future holds for him after he graduates with his 2+2 degree and he’s looking forward to the rest of the racing season.  He hopes people come out and support Lima’s local dirt track the rest of the year saying, “Limaland Motorsports Park is such a great track, I know you won’t be disappointed in the racing you’ll see.”
