UNOH Men's Basketball faces Cincinnati Christian

The Winter sports season is now underway for Racer Athletics.  Read on to see what’s in store for Men’s and Women’s Basketball and Men’s and Women’s Bowling!

Men’s Basketball

Under second-year head coach Caleb Williams, the men’s basketball team will feature a new look this season as just 22 percent of the scoring and 29 percent of the rebounding returns in 2018-19.

The Racers have four returnees, led by senior forward Willis Mackey, Jr., who averaged 8.2 points and 7.1 rebounds per game last season while shooting 53 percent from the field.  Sophomore guard Nathan Lessing, who came off the bench in every game and shot nearly 50 percent while averaging 5.1 points per game, also returns along with sophomore forward Oslbey Mercer and senior center Ander Perez.

11 newcomers round out the roster for UNOH, including junior Tanner Eubank and freshmen Zach Montes, Ladji Samoura, Isaac Golson, Jr., Alex Cluff, Bailey Gardner and Justin Koepp.

Along with the 20-game Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference slate, the schedule also includes matchups with local rivals Taylor, Shawnee State, Ohio Christian, Wilberforce, Mount Vernon Nazarene, Indiana South Bend, Goshen and Cincinnati Christian.

Women’s Basketball

The women’s basketball team, under the helm of fourth-year head coach Mike Armbruster, returns eight players from last year’s squad, including sophomore guard Emily Patton, who was named the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Year in 2017-18 after averaging 14.8 points per game and shooting 79 percent at the foul line.

Also back for the Racers are sophomore guard/forward Jer’Taya Hall, junior forward Ana Farahane, sophomore guard Maddie Schulte, senior guard Leticia Johnson and junior forward Tameka Hodges.  Senior center Shatisha Dukes, after missing last season due to a knee injury, also returns.

UNOH has nine newcomers, including junior guard Brianna Williams, junior guard/forward Destiny Wooten, forward Kiara Cain, guard Ronja Orpo, guard Bethany Blow and center Jonae Lee.

The schedule features the 20-game WHAC slate along with Shawnee State, Taylor, Wilberforce, Mount Vernon Nazarene, Calvin and Saint Francis (IN).

Bowling

Leading the list of returnees for the men’s team are seniors Jimmie Ebeling and Michael Staniford, junior Tyler Wenning and sophomores Ryan Clarke and Caleb Johnson.  Freshmen Keith Horton and Gage Stelling should also play a factor for the Racers.

On the women’s side, Sydney Albert, Makenzie Kraft, Maddison Current, Sarah Lowther, Amanda Stachler and Caitlin Pollard should be key contributors for UNOH.

After opening the season by hosting the Racers Classic, both teams will compete in events throughout the Midwest and South before competing in the postseason sectionals.
