The UNOH Racers are ready for the 2019-2020 Athletic Season to get underway!  This fall our Men’s and Women’s Soccer teams are set to take the pitch along with Women’s Volleyball and Men’s and Women’s Golf and Tennis teams with a few teams picked in preseason polls to top the WHAC Conference!

Men’s Soccer

The University of Northwestern Ohio men's soccer team has been picked third in the 2019 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference preseason poll.

Head coach Tyler Brock, who enters his third season at the helm of the Racers in 2019, led the squad to a share of the 2018 WHAC regular-season title with Madonna in finishing 14-4-2 overall and 10-1 in the conference.

The Racers open the season by hosting the UNOH Showcase, taking on Baker on August 23 and Keiser on August 27.  Northwestern Ohio will also host Rio Grande, Union, West Virginia Tech and Maine Fort Kent during the nonconference portion of the schedule before beginning WHAC play on September 27 at home versus Rochester.

Women’s Soccer

The Northwestern Ohio women’s soccer team, which has either won or shared the WHAC regular-season title each of the last five years, has been named the favorite in this season’s WHAC preseason poll.

Led by second-year head coach Jen Dervarics,  the Racers return several players off the 2018 squad that went 13-5-3 overall and 10-1 in the conference, including four First Team All-WHAC honorees in senior forward Kate Agyemang, senior midfielder Julie Cazanave and sophomore defenders Brooke Goodrich and Dana Schuller.

UNOH opens the season at Saint Francis (IN) on August 23, with the home opener set for August 27 against Taylor.  The Racers also host Indiana East and Bellevue before starting WHAC play on September 25 at home versus Lourdes.

Volleyball

The UNOH volleyball team was one of three teams picked to finish fourth in the WHAC preseason poll.

Head coach Max Miller enters his third season at the helm after posting a 26-9 campaign in 2018, one that saw Northwestern Ohio record its best start in school history by winning its first 11 matches. Senior middle hitter Devon Heitkamp was an Honorable Mention All-American selection and was also chosen as the WHAC Newcomer of the Year while senior setter Kayleigh Hulst joined Heitkamp on the WHAC First Team and senior outside hitter Erika Angstmann was named to the Second Team.

The Racers will compete in tournaments at Grace, Siena Heights and Fisk before opening the home and WHAC portion of its schedule against Concordia on September 11.

Men’s Golf

Northwestern Ohio received all but one first-place vote as the Racers were elected as the preseason favorite in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference for the 2019-20 men's golf season.

UNOH, who won last season's WHAC Tournament by 43 strokes, made its third-ever appearance at the NAIA Championship in Mesa, Arizona, finishing eighth.

Sophomore Josh Beatt and senior Gonzalo Garcia-Parada both return after each were named First Team All-WHAC last season.  Garcia-Parada posted a 73.46 round average and had six top 10 finishes, including medalist honors at WHAC Jamboree #2 and at the WHAC Championship.  Beatt had a 75.36 round average and finished in the top 10 seven times, winning at Defiance and at the Shootout at Stonehedge.

The Racers will compete in three WHAC Jamborees and seven tournaments overall in the fall, including the UNOH Fall Invitational August 30 at Hidden Creek Golf Club.

Women’s Golf

The women’s golf team, which won the WHAC Championship last spring and made its third consecutive appearance in the NAIA Championship, has been named the favorite in this season’s WHAC preseason poll.

Among the returnees for the Racers are senior Natalia Quintero and junior Devaki Ganesh, who both were First Team All-WHAC honorees a season ago.  Ganesh has been the medalist at each of the last two WHAC Championships, finished with a round average of 76.86 last season and finished in the top 10 in nine tournaments.  Quintero posed a 77.88 round average and placed in the top 10 in nine tournaments.

Sophomores Haleigh Gray and Hastha Rajendran also return after earning Second Team All-WHAC honors in 2018.

Along with three WHAC Jamborees, the Racers will compete in two other tournaments during the fall at Indiana Wesleyan and Texas Wesleyan.

Men’s Tennis

UNOH, looking to win the WHAC regular-season and tournament titles for the sixth consecutive season, will have a busy fall with three tournaments and five dual contests.  The Racers will compete in the Marian Doubles Tournament, the ITA Regional Tournament at Indiana Wesleyan and host their own invitational in October.  Northwestern Ohio will also face Grace, Indiana Wesleyan, Goshen, Huntington and Findlay during the fall.

Women’s Tennis
