Summertime is prime race season, which means that it’s a great time for students to find internship opportunities. Tristan Camden and Austin West did just that when the pair landed themselves a spot at Terry Haddock Racing. Both students are currently working towards their high performance motorsports/automotive associate degrees.

The two are not only excited to work on a race team, but also to put their knowledge to the test. “Without UNOH I wouldn’t have a clue what these guys are talking about when it comes to tuning the car or what Terry meant when he said he needed to degree a cam in the engine,” Austin expressed. “UNOH has basically set a foundation for me and the internship is building the first floor.”

Tristan is balancing his coursework and working for the university during the week and still enjoying his weekends working for the race team. “UNOH giving me the opportunity to get my feet wet in the High Performance atmosphere has definitely been a huge part in these steps as I continue to further myself closer to a career,” Tristan exclaimed. “Getting to know others in the NHRA drag racing community has already started to open up other doors of opportunities. But if it wasn’t for UNOH who knows when or if I would have ended up on a team.”

This internship is teaching them the importance of commitment, time management, and follow-through. At the end of the day, you have to be confident in what you are doing because you are sending someone’s life down the track at 300MPH – so it better be right!” Ferre has been able to trust these two and the work they have been putting in this summer.

Tristan and Camden are thankful for UNOH having the connections they do in all facets of racing. These two students are experiencing a summer they’ll never forget gaining skills they will carry with them for the rest of their lives!
