Written by Communications Specialist Georgia Krebs

Many students celebrate graduating in different ways, trips to relax or perhaps jumping into their careers. However, Ana Lacerda decided to go to Vietnam to volunteer at a shelter for single mothers after graduating in 2017. During this time, Ana met her soon-to-be business partner, Andy. The trip inspired them to create a clothing line that was made to empower women. This dream became a reality, as they opened their business ANAVITA.

ANAVITA makes active wear, currently only for women, with the goal of inspiring and promoting a healthier active lifestyle. It may seem that active wear can be found in nearly every store or website one looks, Ana brings a unique aspect to her clothing line. After the clothing is designed in California by Ana and Andy, the clothing is handmade in Ana’s hometown in Brazil.

The University of Northwestern Ohio helped Ana bring these countries together, as she says, “I met incredible people from all over the world, had a close relationship to great professors and had a great learning experience in the classroom along with my classmates.”

Ana came to UNOH from Brazil to study Business Administration and a minor in Sport Marketing and Management. While at UNOH, she represented the Racers on the tennis courts. “What I loved the most about my time at UNOH was being able to be an athlete and study at the same time,” Ana stated. “Being part of the UNOH tennis team shaped my personality for the better. It truly improved my personal and professional relationships, it improved my problem solving skills, delegation and time management skills, networking and leadership skills. That combined with my in classroom education in Business and Sport Marketing and Management gave me foundation that is today directly applied to my business, ANAVITA. Today, my partner and I are confidently in charge of all steps in our business, and as a small business we take care of the financial management, marketing, web design, content management, sales, customer service, and more.”

Coming from Brazil, enrolling at UNOH gave Ana a different life perspective and opened her eyes to a world of possibilities. Ana is thankful for her time on campus and said, “My education at UNOH is part of what I am today, and I will be forever thankful for my great professors, my tennis coach Phil Carlisle, my teammates and classmates!”

Ana’s products and story can be found online at myanavita.com. Take a moment to browse the online store and it is instantly noticed that the different textures, colors, and patterns make their active wear stand out. The unique ingredient to the clothing is the Brazilian touch and distinguishable Brazilian fabrics.
