John Lenhart, 2008 UNOH Graduate

Anderhart Speed is celebrating 5 years as an award-winning automotive fabrication shop, while UNOH is celebrating the success of the owner, John Lenhart a 2008 high performance graduate. John opened Anderhart Speed in 2014 using his passion for taking industry leading parts and fabricating custom one-off pieces to create the finest vehicle possible. It’s a small business designed around construction, modification, and restoration of vintage cars, with a specialization in Hot Rods, Customs, Pro-touring, and Muscle cars.  Anderhart Speed also offers fabrication work for modern import, drift, drag, and circle track cars.

The success of the company does not come from the usual use of marketing and advertising efforts, but instead from word of mouth.  All of his customers are either referrals from past customers or have witnessed the company’s projects first-hand at car shows. This is proof that Anderhart Speed knows what they’re doing in the industry.

John had the passion from the start, but the University of Northwestern Ohio gave him the education and tools to take his career to where it is today. “With the knowledge I attained at school as well as the side projects I worked on with and during school, I was able to get a job at Posies Rods and Customs and get my foot in the door in the industry,” he stated. “From there I was able to take what I learned and grow it in the industry quickly, effectively, and with few mistakes. Then I was able to start off on the right foot in business ownership. UNOH is a necessary step in the automotive industry.”

To prove their excellence, Anderhart Speed won two awards, ‘Award of Excellence’ and ‘Memory Lane’, at Goodguys Columbus. These awards were for the shop truck, a fully custom built 1947 Ford pickup truck featuring orange pearl paint, white cream frame and suspension, and extensive styling and performance fabrication. The ’47 pickup and other custom builds have also won awards at National Street Rod Association (NSRA) events and numerous local car shows.

John said there were a number of things he picked up at UNOH that helped get him where he is today. “Firstly, it was the quality of the teachers. I have always been thirsty for knowledge and understanding, and every single instructor I had gravitated to that thirst. The more questions you asked, the more they wanted to answer. They also showed strong and sincere interest in the success of their students,” John explained. “Secondly, the combination of the curriculum style and the resources of the campus. The curriculum is designed perfectly, and allows a focus on one section of study. The campus offers amazing resources and a fun environment.”

So whether your vehicle has been in the build process for years or just an idea on paper, Anderhart Speed is committed to designing and building a car that exceeds your expectations. Check out John’s drive for excellence online at and be sure to check out videos of his past projects!

Congrats on your success John!
