UNOH Student Anastasios Kaidirmaoglou

When I was nearing the end of high school, I was in search of a college, but nothing really caught my interest. All I knew was that I wanted to go to a college where I could get a degree in the high-performance industry. When I saw the commercial for UNOH and the High-Performance Program they offer, I knew right away that was the place I wanted to go. Choosing to attend UNOH was the best decision I ever made. The knowledge I’ve learned and most importantly, the connections I’ve made because of UNOH, is amazing. Being a student at UNOH, and a member of the UNOH Motorsports Team and having the opportunity to travel and compete at Volusia Speedway against the very best in dirt car racing is a dream come true.

This year’s trip to Volusia Speedway Park for the DIRTcar Winter Nationals was definitely one to remember. This year’s trip provided me, and other students on the UNOH Motorsports Team, with a great opportunity to put the skills we’ve learned from our classes at UNOH to the test. With it being my second year on the trip, I was able to apply new skills I’ve learned at UNOH, knowing it would be put to the test against the best dirt racers in the country. UNOH has prepared me so well that I have confidence in my knowledge and skill for when I enter the industry.

While on the trip, I was also able to bond closely with my teammates in a way that’s different from how I usually do. Before coming to UNOH it was hard to find friends that shared the same interest in motorsports like me. Now I’m on a motorsports team with 90+ members and a huge student body that is interested in motorsports and cars in general. Our whole team is like a family; if one of us is having problems, all of us jump in to lend a hand. While at Volusia Speedway, we all helped each other, whether it was asking for tools or help holding something in place. We did everything together while in Florida, from eating together after a long night at the Speedway, to racing go-karts and playing putt-putt golf on our day off.  My teammates and I also got the great opportunity to go to the NASCAR Busch Clash at Daytona International Speedway, which was an amazing opportunity for us to look and even speak to professional teams to get some insight about the upper echelons of NASCAR.

The 2020 UNOH Motorsports team trip to Volusia Speedway was an absolute blast. It was a great experience for me and my fellow teammates that I will always remember and tell stories about. The skills I gained, people I met, and memories I made, are things that will help we move forward in the motorsports industry. I want to sincerely thank all of the UNOH staff and faculty as well as our sponsors for making this trip possible. Because of you, I now have great confidence that I can build a successful career in the motorsports industry following graduation.

Thank You,

Anastasios Kaidirmaoglou Jr.
