UNOH Graduate Neil Parsons at the IAC
Written by Communications Specialist Georgia Krebs
Neil Parsons saw an opportunity in the diesel and agriculture industry that led him to pursue the industry and obtain an education at the University of Northwestern Ohio. He brought more than the need to learn to campus, he also brought his passion for boxing. Neil has been boxing since his high school years back in Kingwood, West Virginia.
It didn’t take him long to find his spot in the local boxing community. He’s had the opportunity to compete in a couple of amateur fights while in Lima. Word traveled fast and Neil was put in contact with the Director of the Indoor Athletic Complex at UNOH, Adam Spiers. Adam shares a passion in fitness and partakes in boxing himself, so he did not hesitate to help train Neil at the IAC.
“The equipment here at the athletic complex is everything you need, from free weights to cardio, to anything you can think of,” Neil stated. “And the fact that it’s free for students is great.”
Neil spent countless hours in the IAC training for local fights and enjoyed the atmosphere. With everyone getting along and the size of the space, he was always able to fit training into his class schedule and work out with the appropriate equipment. The hard work and training with Adam seemed to pay off, Neil’s record is seven and three.
“I think it’s important to stay busy while at school,” said Neil. “All the clubs, events and free activities the school offers helps keep students focused while at UNOH.”
The support from his peers, faculty, and staff has contributed to Neil’s success at UNOH. His fans consist of the UNOH family, both in the classroom and in the stands during his fights.
Neil graduated recently and is now employed as a Diesel Mechanic at Leslie Equipment Company as well as running his own business, Parsons Auto Detailing in West Virginia.
