The University of Northwestern Ohio’s Chapter of the American Marketing Association competed virtually against nearly 400 collegiate chapters (1700+ students) from around the world in a variety of individual, team and school competitions at the 42nd AMA International Collegiate Competition March 12 - 14, 2020. Scheduled to take place in New Orleans, Louisiana, the UNOH AMA chapter declined to travel to the event due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to these circumstances, the American Marketing Association allowed many schools to compete in two simulated competitions from their home school.
Representing the UNOH chapter in competition this year were Daniel Sanchez (Averill Park, NY), Ashley Scott (New Knoxville, OH), Kira Bueter (Ft. Wayne, IN), Rebecca Metras (Pepperall, MA), Lauren Hoelscher (New Knoxville, OH), Saebre Barker (Ft. Wayne, IN), Trevor Jones (Montgomery, NJ), and Natalie Ginter (St Marys, OH).
On Thursday, March 12, 2020, Kira Bueter, Lauren Hoelscher, Saebre Barker, and Trevor Jones met in a conference room on the UNOH campus to spend the day competing against 24 other collegiate teams from across the country. The SABRE simulation is an advanced strategic marketing simulation in which teams use research and development, forecasting, market research and financial tools to reach new markets and manage products. At the end of the day, Team UNOH finished in 7th place. They successfully outperformed many larger institutions.
On Saturday, March 14, 2020, the UNOH team competed in the Marketplace Simulation competition. The participating members were Daniel Sanchez, Ashley Scott, Lauren Hoelscher and Saebre Barker. This particular competition had 20 teams competing. The team was responsible for making strategic decisions in expanding product sales and opening new stores internationally. Team UNOH finished in 2nd place! Once again, outperforming larger schools.
This year, the UNOH AMA chapter received an Exemplary Collegiate Chapter Performance Award placing 33rd overall out of nearly 400 chapters. This is UNOH AMA’s best overall placement thus far, as they have to compete against chapters from some of the largest universities in the country! They received Exemplary Chapter rankings in the areas of Chapter Planning, Community and Social Impact, and Internal/External Communications.
