Art is a Passion for UNOH Student Athlete

UNOH Student Athlete Devaki Ganesh Painting at the Lima Mall

Between studying for her Business Administration courses and playing for the women’s golf team, Devaki Ganesh finds time to relax and express herself through her art. Devaki traveled from Malaysia to be a student athlete at UNOH, and quickly has made Lima her home away from home.

Devaki finds comfort on the small UNOH campus, with a large campus feel. She stated, “My favorite part of the Lima community is the people who are always so supportive and I have not experienced any discrimination.” She has formed relationships not only on campus, but in the Lima/Allen County community.

One new relationship is with the manager of the Lima Mall, who invited Devaki to showcase her talents live in front of others. This June, Devaki participated in the mall’s new Canvas Project that showcases local artists. Devaki was excited to share her passion of arts with others in the community as she painted a portrait of roses live for shoppers to enjoy.

“Art is a passion for me and it connects me with people and nature,” Devaki said. Her artwork is her escape from reality and a place to unwind. The theme of her artwork shows a glimpse of her personality, colorful and cheerful.

The array of artwork is vast and you can find her creating portraits, Disney characters, welcome signs, abstract art, and even fridge magnets. She has been painting since she was 8 years old and she is passionate about the blissful satisfaction of finishing an art piece.

Devaki is very thankful for her parents who understand and appreciate her art, the Lima community members who welcome her to showcase her passion, and the UNOH golf family. Dawn and Eric West, the women’s golf coaches, are second parents to Devaki and she has cherished having their support during her time at UNOH.
