UNOH AMA Chapter Members attending their virtual regional conference

Written by Communications Specialist Georgia Beard

The University of Northwestern Ohio’s Chapter of the American Marketing Association is a well-known club on campus due to its diversity and involvement of students of different degree programs. For the past four years, the members have worked to host the region’s conference on campus. However, this year UNOH’s AMA held the fourth annual AMA Regional Collegiate Conference virtually due to the current COVID-19 pandemic.

AMA is open to students enrolled in all degrees and programs at UNOH and can help enhance professional skills, provide real-world experiences, and so much more than simply marketing. Collegiate chapters from around the country attend and participate in regional conferences for professional development, to hear from speakers, partake in competitions, and meet with career recruiters.

Saebre Barker and Lauren Hoelscher - Conference Directors and President & Vice President of UNOH AMA“Our conference theme for this year was Adaptive Marketing,” explained UNOH’s AMA Vice President, Social Media Coordinator, and Co-Conference Director, Saebre Barker. “We had speakers and business owners share their experience and changes that they had to adapt to during the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants will be able to learn how these businesses were able to adapt to ongoing changes in the business world to ensure their business was able to continue thriving during difficult external hurdles.”

Due to the conference being hosted on Zoom instead of on-campus, UNOH was able to open the regional conference up and invite chapters outside of the region to get involved. “This year we had more than 20 schools from all over the country attend our virtual conference,” Saebre stated. “This was the highest number of schools that we have had involved in our annual conference.”

The collegiate chapters participated in the following competitions: CDW Perfect Pitch, Marketing Strategy, and C.H. Robinson Sales Competition.

“My favorite part of AMA is that it provides the opportunity to interact and network with businesses and other AMA chapters around the country,” Saebre said. “This club provides opportunities for the future that a lot of other clubs can’t provide.”

UNOH students are able to join the university’s AMA chapter by simply going to a meeting. UNOH’s AMA has meetings most Mondays at 7pm. Students can attend meetings in person while practicing social distancing or they can join virtually on Microsoft Teams. Follow the club on Instagram (@unohamaofficial) or like them on Facebook at "American Marketing Association - University of Northwestern Ohio" to keep up with meetings and club updates.
