UNOH Race Club Members at Daytona International Speedway in February 2020
Written by Communications Specialist Georgia Beard
“I chose to come to UNOH because of their Race Club, I saw my opportunity to get my name out there and to get people talking.” Trey Galgon said while explaining why he made the journey to Ohio from Pennsylvania to study Automotive and High Performance.
Trey now spends every weekend working for a professional race team, while completing courses and serving as the President of the ARCA and Over-the-Wall Club. He is able to get hands-on during the week in the class, then turn around and not only use that knowledge at tracks across the country, but also build upon that knowledge.
Timothy Monroe came to UNOH from Illinois with the intentions of driving for the university’s Motorsports Team. When he learned more about the Race Club and the opportunity to get real world experience on professional teams, he knew he had to experience that as well.
He kept an open mind and was willing to try new things, which led him to learning more at the ARCA tracks every weekend. “When you’re on the team, they teach you advanced stuff based off of the knowledge I learn in class,” Timothy said.
While this year was a slower one in the high paced racing lifestyle due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Race Club members did not allow this to stop them from reaching their goals and dreams of working in the industry. Even during online courses this year, they were able to be a crew chief or other member of a professional ARCA team.
Both Trey and Timothy are working to gain experience and advanced knowledge prior to the real world. The Race Club, Motorsports Team, and other opportunities at UNOH help students make these types of connections in the high performance industry. Between that and their new connections, they are leading themselves into successful futures.
The UNOH Race Club will be meeting December 8th and December 15th at 12:30pm in the 400 building lobby. All students are welcome to attend and learn more about the club.
