From (L) to (R): Ohio Means Jobs-Allen County Executive Director Joe Patton, UNOH Dean Tim Fitzpatrick, & UNOH Mascot Torque
In a first-of-its-kind partnership for the state of Ohio, the University of Northwestern Ohio is partnering with Ohio Means Jobs-Allen County to host career counselors on campus five-days-a-week to assist students in finding part time jobs while in school and full-time jobs following graduation.
Announced during a press conference with Tim Fitzpatrick, UNOH’s Dean of the Colleges of: Business, Health Professions, and Occupational Professions, Ohio Means Jobs – Allen County Executive Director Joe Patton said “This new partnership will help our agency connect with college students who may be interested in starting their career here in Allen County, which will add more depth to our agency’s recruiting pipeline for jobs that require an associate’s or bachelor’s degree.”
Because UNOH attracts students from all 50 states, OMJ Career Counselors will also help students find jobs in other states or cities through their connections with LinkedIn, Indeed, other state's agencies and more.
“We want students to find value in their education and value in their degree. We know if we can partner with an entity like Ohio Means Jobs, now we have the skill sets and the knowledge base to make our students successful in their careers,” said Dean Fitzpatrick. “We believe this partnership will also help UNOH deepen our relationship with employers in the region and connect them with soon-to-be graduates that could fill any employment gaps they may be experiencing.”
Allen County Commissioner Cory Noonan, in attendance for the press conference, said of the partnership “We like to be leaders here in Allen County and UNOH is a leader in what they do. Ohio Means Jobs partnering with UNOH is a perfect fit. I commend both entities today for what they are doing. In Ohio, we are looked at in many partnerships we have and this is another perfect example of one of those ground-breaking partnerships.”
Career Counselors will not only assist students with job hunting, but they will also help with resume building, cover letter writing, mock interviews, career advising, and finding paid internship opportunities.
