Starting this month, the University of Northwestern Ohio will be hosting FREE weekly COVID-19 testing events on campus for all students, faculty, and staff. The first testing clinic will take place Wednesday, January 20 from 12:00pm – 2:00pm in the lobby of the 600 Building (1744 Hartzler Road, Lima, OH 45805).  No pre-registration is required.

The tests being performed on campus will be polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test via oropharyngeal swab (throat swab). Results are expected to be available within 48 hours after samples are collected. As required by law, Allen County Public Health will be notified of any positive test results.

Following the test, we recommend students and staff limit contact with others and be aware of their distance from individuals outside of their dorm or household. Those who receive a positive diagnosis will be contacted directly and provided guidance on quarantine and isolation procedures, and will be asked to provide a list of people they were in close contact with 48 hours prior to the test until the time results were received.

Students who test positive and those who are identified as close contacts will receive support from Student Success to ensure academic continuity.

WHO ARE CONSIDERED CLOSE CONTACTS?

  • People you had direct physical contact with (hugged or kissed them)
  • People you shared eating or drinking utensils with
  • People you live with (dorm mates and house mates)
  • People you have been within 6 ft. of for more than 15 minutes in a 24-hour period
  • Classmates and/or Teammates depending on distance and length of contact

The weekly surveillance testing, done in partnership with Lima Memorial Health Systems, will provide the University with information about the extent of the virus in our campus community and provide a valuable tool for reducing the spread of COVID-19. Combined with existing protocols, the ability to test students on a regular basis will help university officials determine if strategies need to be adjusted moving forward.

UNOH has developed a webpage to address frequently asked questions and information related to asymptomatic and surveillance testing.  To access that information, visit the “Return to Campus” page and click on the Asymptomatic Surveillance Testing tab.
