The University of Northwestern Ohio’s Commencement Ceremonies will be virtual this June for the Class of 2021. Unfortunately, an in-person ceremony is not feasible due to the continuing guidelines and restrictions posed by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in both Ohio and Allen County.  All large gatherings for UNOH have been held in a virtual format since March 2020 including open houses and orientations.

“We understand that this news is disappointing for both our graduating students and their families,” said Dr. Jeffrey A. Jarvis, president of UNOH. “Graduation ceremonies are a significant part of a person’s life and nothing can replace the excitement of being handed your degree on stage, but in light of the current public health emergency, we simply cannot risk an in-person celebration with thousands of people in attendance from all over the country at this time. We will continue the ceremonies in a virtual way making sure to celebrate the wonderful accomplishments of all of our graduating students.”

In the coming weeks graduating students will receive emails and text messages with information on how to have their name and photo included in UNOH’s 2021 Virtual Ceremony.  This experience will include a message from President Jarvis, specially-designed UNOH graduation filters to use on Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat, and information on how they can share the news and ceremony with friends and family over social media. Graduating students will have their name read during the ceremony as long as UNOH has a photo of the student to display. Graduating students can send their name and photo to this Google Drive link:

The 2021 Virtual Commencement will be a memorable celebration for the graduating class while also providing an opportunity for faculty, staff, alumni, fellow students, and families of the graduating students to offer their congratulations.

Following the virtual event, graduating students who participated in the ceremony will be mailed a commemorative degree cover, printed graduation program, and commemorative tassel.   Students who wish to update their mailing address information need to contact as soon as possible using their UNOH email account.
