Written by Communications Specialist Gergia Beard
Becca Metras found herself at the University of Northwestern Ohio studying Business Administration. However, being an artist at heart, she quickly followed her creative passion to get her Associate’s degree in Digital Multimedia Design and Bachelor’s degree in Marketing.
During her four years at UNOH, Becca experienced many facets of media in marketing. She was able to learn hands-on by utilizing camera equipment, building a website, and so much more.
“From all my experience in the classroom at UNOH,” Becca stated, “I’m was able to come to OhioMeansJobs Allen County and do their filming, editing, and web design.” Becca creates videos for employers to help their companies fill positions and answer frequently asked questions.
Becca started her career with knowledge from the classroom, but UNOH also helped her gain internships during her time studying. At the UNOH Reverse Career Fair, NOW Marketing, a local marketing agency, offered Becca an internship. During her time with NOW Marketing, Becca used her skills from UNOH for the very first time. She was able to shoot photography, make videos and graphics, and other various content for their clients.
After her internship came to an end, Becca was connected with another local business, 50 Strong. Becca had the opportunity to create their video and photo content for social media campaigns to help promote their graphic water bottles.
When Becca graduated in 2020, she took this knowledge to OhioMeansJobs Allen County. Their goal is to provide and promote a workforce system that offers individuals, employers, and the community opportunities to achieve and sustain economic prosperity in the region. They aide the employers and job seekers on both ends of the spectrum.
“When UNOH and OhioMeansJobs - Allen County decided to partner for their Career Services Department, I actually got to be a part of the marketing plan process,” Becca exclaimed excited to give back to her alma mater.
Becca is grateful for her experience and decision to attend UNOH and follow the marketing and digital multimedia path. “I get to come to work and do something different in my field every day,” she stated. “Whether it's planning, making proposals for future projects, coming up with new ideas, creating flyers, graphic design, web design, or video, there's something new that I get to do here every day.”
