UNOH AMA Students and Instructors at Stryker's Corporate Headquarters

University of Northwestern Ohio instructors Allan Pohlman and Nathan Vandenbroek led a group of eight students from UNOH’s chapter of the American Marketing Association to Stryker’s corporate headquarters in Kalamazoo, Michigan, earlier this year.  Students had the privilege of spending the day with Stryker's Neurosurgical Division. The trip was expertly coordinated by Aaron Morrow, the Director of Upstream Marketing at Stryker, who, along with his team, provided valuable insights into how upstream marketing significantly impacts overall business operations at Stryker. The trip provided students with a firsthand look into the lucrative and exciting medical device industry, offering a glimpse into the workings of a Fortune 250 company.

Stryker's global footprint, with office locations on every continent (excluding Antarctica), showcases the company's reach and impact in the Medical Device Industry. In 2023, Stryker achieved a significant milestone, surpassing $20 billion in revenue for the first time in its history. In the morning session, Aaron and his team engaged the students in discussions about the pivotal role upstream marketing plays in driving innovation and shaping the business landscape. In the afternoon, Michael Wilson, the Director of Downstream Marketing, and his team explained to the students how collaboration between downstream and upstream marketing is imperative when coordinating new product launches within the dynamic medical device industry. UNOH students were able to gain a comprehensive understanding of the day-to-day life of marketing professionals at Stryker.

A highlight of the day, meeting with Jeff Gordon, Stryker's VP and General Manager. Students and the Instructors had the privilege of discussing the unique culture of Stryker and learning why the company consistently ranks among Fortune's top 100 companies to work for globally.
