UNOH 2024 Graduation Ceremony

The University of Northwestern Ohio proudly held its 104th annual commencement exercises on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at the Veterans Memorial Civic and Convention Center. This year marked a significant milestone, with 742 graduates receiving a total of 919 diplomas and degrees. The graduates represented the University’s five colleges: College of Applied Technologies, College of Business, College of Health Professions, College of Occupational Professions, and Graduate College. Remarkably, 142 students earned two or more credentials.

The graduation speaker for the 2024 ceremonies was distinguished UNOH alumnus Dr. Russ Decker, currently the Manager of Special Projects at Nutrien, Lima Nitrogen. Dr. Decker, who holds a Ph.D. in Public Safety Administration from Capella University and a Master of Science from Tiffin University, began his academic journey with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from UNOH. His extensive public safety career and current role overseeing Community and Media Relations, Government Affairs, and Strategic Inclusion at Nutrien, provided him with a wealth of experience to share with the graduates. Dr. Decker's speech focused on continuous learning and stepping outside comfort zones to achieve personal and professional growth.

As the graduates embark on their new journeys, Dr. Decker left them with a powerful message: “Challenge yourself to keep learning; challenge yourself to take some risks and get outside of your comfort zone, and that is how you grow.” This sentiment encapsulates the spirit of UNOH, encouraging graduates to build on the solid foundation of their education as they pursue their future careers and educational goals.

UNOH President Dr. Jeffrey A. Jarvis emphasized the university's mission of preparing students for successful careers. “We are in the business where you are educating people to become productively employed in their chosen career path, and there is no better feeling than graduation day for them. So, it’s an exciting day for all of us here,” he remarked.

The 2024 graduates shared profound experiences and personal growth found at UNOH. “The classes were a little bit on the smaller side, but that created more discussion in the groups, which I really looked forward to,” said Hope Fetherolf, a Sport Marketing & Management Graduate.  “I didn’t want to be just a number at some school. I felt that I had a personal connection with my professors and my classmates around me at UNOH, and that is something that is just priceless.”

The ceremonies celebrated the hard work and dedication of the 2024 graduating class, who represented 39 states and 24 countries, including Argentina, Australia, Bahamas, Belize, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Ecuador, France, Germany, Italy, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Netherlands, Peru, Scotland, Serbia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, United States, Uruguay, and Zimbabwe.

Congratulations to the University of Northwestern Ohio’s Class of 2024! The entire UNOH community wishes you continued success as you take on the world.
