Four UNOH CoAT students, Riley Larr, Anthony McCarty, Kody Pond, and Jack Lorenz, will be attending the TMC FutureTech Competition September 15-19, in Raleigh, North Carolina with instructors Jason Daniels and Lauren Reinhold. The students attending have been sponsored by our partners and friends from Frontier Truck Parts, the Mack/Volvo DATE program, and Columbus Equipment Company.
On August 21st, the students attended an in-house competition held by Kirk NationaLease in Sidney, Ohio. The students were met with challenging stations similar to what they will experience at the FutureTech Competition in Raleigh. Some of the stations included disc brake systems, wheel bearing adjustment, electrical diagnosis, and preventative maintenance.
Kirk NationaLease and their partners put the event together to help prepare their employees to also compete in the contest. The event housed three separate categories of technician: Truck Technician, Trailer Technician, and FutureTech Technician. The FutureTech category included the four students listed above, and also included two UNOH students currently employed with Kirk NationaLease, Colby Little and Hunter Collins.
Prizes from Kirk NationaLease and their partners were awarded to the winner and runner-up for each category. The runner-up for the FutureTech category was Kody Pond and the first-place winner of the FutureTech category was Jack Lorenz! The winners were recognized on August 22nd at the awards banquet hosted at Kirk NationaLease.
The instructors want to thank Kirk NationaLease, their partners, and the faculty and administration at UNOH for their help and understanding with this project.
Wish them luck as they head to compete in Raleigh this September!
