BARBERVILLE, Fla. (Feb. 4, 2025) – After a day of tough work under the Florida sun, the UNOH Motorsports Team was able to win the fourth Feature race of the night with driver Randy Giroux’s high side expertise. The No. 1’s gator trophy is the first won by UNOH since alumnus Joel Ortberg took one home in 2014.

The order of events for Tuesday was the same as Monday’s schedule, with the UMP Modifieds as the sole series of the day. After the Team worked for nearly nine hours to get the cars race ready, the UNOH drivers ran hot laps and qualified to run in two of the six Feature races of the night.

Brayden Weller of the No. 01 Modified started eighth in the fourth Feature while Aidan Hinds of the No. 11 started tenth. Randy Giroux of the No. 1 started in second, on the outside pole for the fifth Feature.

Weller and Hinds put on a strong showing in the fourth feature, battling back and forth with other contenders for position. The UNOH drivers kept their cars clean and fought hard, finishing fifth and tenth respectively.

Giroux started in an advantageous position for Feature five. Known as the “high side hero”, Giroux quickly used the high groove to pass the pole sitter and take control of the race. For 15 laps, the audience was on edge as drivers including reigning NASCAR Xfinity Series Champion Justin Allgaier threatened to pass the UNOH No. 1 for the lead. However, Giroux held strong and kept a commanding hold on first place even after a late caution that put Allgaier in position to pass on the restart. Fort Erie, Ontario’s own Randy Giroux crossed the line in first place, winning UNOH a DIRTcar Nationals Volusia gator for the first time in 11 years.

UNOH Team members hightailed it to the infield after the checkered flag, all running to meet the No. 1 car and its victorious driver. Spirits were high, fireworks boomed overhead and Randy’s gator trophy gleamed gold in the bright track lights

Giroux and crew chief Wilson Owens caught up with the UNOH media team after photos, a friendly chat with Justin Allgaier and other festivities. “While watching the Feature I

experienced a lot of emotions I had never felt before,” Owens said. “My entire body was shaking and I felt like I was gonna fall over while watching him lead so many laps and after the restart. Every time he races, I wonder if the adjustment we made to the car was the right choice. Today, it was and seeing that work pay off was absolutely amazing.”

“It means a lot, to accomplish this after racing with UNOH for five years,” Giroux said. “During the race I felt really confident in the car and in myself, but on the restarts you can really give up positions if you mess up. I was a little worried but had a lot of momentum on the restart and got clear. The last five laps I could see the red nose of Allgaier coming up underneath me and I held him off. It felt really good. This crew worked their tail off today and it paid off really well.”

The UNOH Motorsports Team’s UMP Modifieds will compete in four more nights of races, all leading up to the Big Gator Championship on Saturday night.. These races will continue to be broadcast on the DIRTVision streaming service app and YouTube channel. Racers Station on the UNOH campus will continue to stream every race. All UNOH students are welcome to come on by and support their fellow classmates every night at 5:30 p.m.
