UNOH Motorsports Celebrates Aidan Hinds Victory at LImaland Motorsports Park

Written by Contributing Columnist Hannah Kelsheimer

The UNOH Motorsports Team ran in their third race of 2025, the “Run for the Rabbit” on Friday, May 16th at Limaland Motorsports Park. The Team fielded one UMP Modified and three Lock Sixteen Thunderstocks, bringing home a long-deserved Feature win before severe weather impacted the track.

Driving for UNOH on Friday were Aidan Hinds in the No. 01 UMP Modified and Tyler Matheny, Dylan Drake, and Houston Null in the No. 01, No. 1 and No. 11 Lock Sixteen Thunderstocks respectively. All four drivers represented UNOH at Limaland during the 2024 season and May 16th was the third race with this driver lineup in 2025. Hinds also represented UNOH in a UMP Modified at the Volusia Speedway DIRTcar Nationals this past January and February.

Due to severe weather approaching from the west on Friday afternoon, drivers in the Stock and Modified classes did not qualify and were instead put into Heats right after their hot lap sessions. In the first of three Modified Heats, Aidan Hinds gained four spots to finish a strong second which granted him the pole position for the A Feature.

The Thunderstock drivers fared well in their Heat races, with Dylan Drake running fast to finish second in the Heat one while Houston Null and Tyler Matheny ended up third and seventh in Heat two. It was shaping up to be a great night for all three drivers until a hole in the radiator in Drake’s No. 1 car was found during staging. The No. 1 Team was forced to call it a night, an unfortunate end to what was shaping up to be a strong performance for the UNOH driver from Kansas.

Starting from the pole, Aidan Hinds was flying fast from the drop of the green flag. He barely gave up the lead for any of the 20 0.3-mile laps, even after a handful of caution flags and restarts. The UNOH crews watched on from the stands as the white flag flew with the No. 01 leading, finally allowing themselves to celebrate a dominant win when Hinds finally took the checkered flag.

The Team was able to meet Aidan in the infield and celebrate their first UMP Modified win at Limaland since 2016 in front of the hometown crowd. The win was the Loveland, Ohio native’s first with UNOH, and the second UNOH win of the year after alumnus Randy Giroux took home a Gator back in Volusia. The mellow driver was all smiles as he accepted the trophy, expressing gratitude for everyone who made it happen.

The Team’s media crew caught up with Aidan and his crew chief, Paden Hines after the race. When asked what all went into this win, Hinds and Hines answered as such.

“It takes a lot of work not only at the track, but in the shop as well,” said driver Hinds. “Everyone says that races are won in the shop and that could not be more true. The dedication of our team and of Paden week in and week out is why we are in this position to begin with. Running with the best competition around the Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky region is no easy feat and to be able to do what we did Friday as a university shows our resilience and passion for what we do.”

Crew Chief Paden Hines agreed, adding, “The (race) shop is like our second home. We spend countless hours week to week making sure we have a fast piece that we can rely on and trust. Half of racing is taking care of your equipment and having everything up at its top tier capability. Sharing this win with the new members is great. It shows them that (winning) is possible and to stay engaged, work hard and continue to learn like we do.”

The night wasn’t over after the Modified Feature. After finishing third and seventh in the second stock car Heat, Houston Null and Tyler Matheny raced hard in the Thunderstocks A Main. At this point in the night, high winds whipped up dust and raindrops began to clear out the grandstands. The crews stood by in support while the drivers fought on and finished, with Null holding onto a solid third place from the pole position and Matheny gaining an impressive eight positions to finish strong in sixth.

Join the UNOH Motorsports Team in support of its drivers and of local hometown racing this Memorial Day weekend on Friday, May 23rd for the Memorial Cup races.
