UNOH Students working at ARCA Championship at Toledo Speedway

UNOH Students from all disciplines worked in the pits and with fans this month at the Owens Corning 200 at Toledo Speedway. The race marked the conclusion of the 2025 ARCA Menards Series season, during which students from various majors worked with the teams, sanctioning body, and track staff.

Throughout the 2025 season, the UNOH Over-the-Wall and Race clubs had students helping out at ARCA races all over the country. One of those students was Joey Cruz, an upperclassman High Performance student. Cruz worked as a tire carrier for Fast Track Racing and his favorite memory from the season was “going to Daytona for the first time ever and doing (his) first ever live pit stop at Kansas”. When asked what advice he would give to a first-year student, Cruz shared that “you get out what you put in. There’s definitely a lot of challenges if you want to work in motorsports, but there are resources to overcome those challenges. The people you surround yourself with are everything here, so it’s a good idea to find the people that are healthy and bring out the best in you.”

Saturday’s race was the first at-track experience for many first-year club members who started their time at UNOH during the August 2025 session. Jayden Knight, Aidan Stevens, Henry Gensch, Noah Leon, and Gavin Williams were among the Over-the-Wall club members working a race for the first time, partnering with MAN Motorsports. At their first race, this group managed tire pressures of the team’s various tire sets and kept things organized during pit stops. All five students stressed the importance of building rapport, making connections, and always being ready to learn at the shop and at the track.

Some students were even employed by ARCA and various teams. Motorsports Marketing student Jared Sitterly, class of 2025, finished out his social media and PR internship with Rise Motorsports at the Toledo race. Dominic Dilello, class of 2026, a student of the 2+2 program, served as an ARCA Menards Series official this season. When asked about what he learned as an official, Dilello said, “I learned a lot about pit road and pit stop rules, and that there always needs to be attention paid to your surroundings. The days are long, but very fulfilling.”

Motorsports Marketing upperclassman Evan DeFlorville served as track staff, working as a customer service representative at concessions on race day. “Interacting with the fans has been a blast,” said DeFlorville. “It’s been important to make connections. After all these experiences, I feel like I could work in not just motorsports marketing, but any marketing. Maybe work at a park or entertainment venue. Working events like these races has been great.”

As the ARCA Menards Series closes the book on 2025, opportunities to get involved still abound at UNOH. Primarily featured in this article is the UNOH Over-the-Wall Club. As per the club website, the Over-the-Wall Club is organized so that students can improve pit crew skills such as jacking, tire changing, and tire carrying. The club also has a conditioning program, which concentrates on agility, mental and nutritional aspects of the sport. Practice is weekly and includes students who aspire to or are interested in participating with ARCA, NASCAR or Grand Am style racing.
