On Monday December 8, four Racers had the opportunity of a lifetime to compete in a first-ever case competition event at the Women in Motorsports North America’s (WIMNA) Women with Drive V conference.
Macie Antle (Automotive High Performance ’25, Business 2+2), Kat Granato (Marketing ‘26), Hannah Kelsheimer (Motorsports Marketing ’25) and Dixon Smith (Motorsports Marketing ‘26) made up UNOH’s Team Racers.
Team Racers selection to compete in the final round of competition was based on their performance in the first round, presented digitally this past October. 21 teams from colleges around the country submitted video presentations proposing plans to bring more women into the motorsports industry as professionals. UNOH entered two teams into the opening round of competition, and Team Racers’ “The Next Generation Project” was amongst the top five submissions, punching their ticket to the final round in Indianapolis.
The prompt for the in-person final round was released during the week of Thanksgiving. Team Racers was tasked with choosing a corporate sponsor with the reach and positioning to integrate and uplift women in the motorsports fanbase. The team selected Amazon as their sponsor, with Elemis skincare and Skims apparel as sample retail brands under the title “Prime the Grid”.
Antle, Granato, Kelsheimer and Smith were joined by UNOH faculty members Natalie Ginter, Ashley Keller, Tom Legeman and Dean Jennifer Evans in Indianapolis on December 8th. After two weeks of crafting their presentation remotely and just one day of in-person practice, the students of Team Racers presented “Prime the Grid” in front of a panel of seven industry professionals at the Dallara Experience Hub in Speedway near IMS.
The following day, students and their advisors enjoyed the first day of the WIMNA Women with Drive V conference at the Indiana Convention Center, a precursor to the Performance Racing Industry (PRI) Show geared towards women in the motorsports industry. After a day of interview panels, a networking lunch and professional Q&As the case competition winners were announced as part of the day’s closing remarks. UNOH Team Racers placed first as the champion of the inaugural event, with Clemson University placing second and Purdue University taking third.
As a reward for winning the competition, Team Racers received trophies and a scholarship for $2,500 to be split between the four students.
On winning, Antle said, “It shows how all the hard work and countless hours we put into this competition really paid off. So thankful for this opportunity!”
“What it means to me about UNOH winning is that we had the opportunity to show that the underdogs can bring the heat,” said Granato.
“This really was the best possible way to cap off my time at UNOH,” Kelsheimer said. “I am so thankful for my whole team, for our awesome advisors, and to win this first-ever competition for UNOH.”
Smith added, “To me, this win carries extra significance because we were competing against much larger, more established universities while representing a newer program. I am incredibly proud of everyone involved and grateful to all those who supported and guided us along the way.”
Congratulations to our students on this outstanding accomplishment in Indianapolis and for their hard work over the past two months to get there. UNOH plans to compete in the WIMNA case competition again in 2026, and with a high bar set by this year’s performance we expect a great future for UNOH on this national stage.
